If Music is the Food of Love, Play On, by Julia Walker Jewell, was given its world premiere performance by Julia Walker Jewell (piano), Beverly Andrews (violin), and Caitlin Andrews (soprano) at Wilmington’s First Presbyterian Church at the November 13, 2025 meeting to an enthusiastic and appreciative group of members and guests. The piece was commissioned this summer by the Thursday Morning Music Club, through generous donations to the Scholarship Fund from members Jo Ann Toscano Carpitella and Mary Sljaka.
Before the performance began, violinist and TMMC member Beverly Andrews told us that the piece would be played once, then explained, then played again, giving the audience a chance to appreciate the thought and execution that went into the melding of a multiple styles from a number of composers across many musical eras.
