Life Without Music……Isn’t Living! (1/8/2026)
Our January 8 program was outstanding. We were able to listen to Brent Trubia perform many jazz selections composed by Scott Joplin.
FYI: Scott Joplin (November 24, 1868 – April 1, 1917) was an American composer and pianist. Dubbed the "King of Ragtime" [1], he composed more than 40 ragtime pieces [2], one ragtime ballet (original version of "The Ragtime Dance", 1899/1902), and two operas. One of his first and most popular pieces, the "Maple Leaf Rag", became the genre's first and most influential hit, later being recognized as the quintessential rag [3]. Joplin considered ragtime to be a form of classical music meant to be played in concert halls and largely disdained the performance of ragtime as honky tonk music most common in saloons.
We thoroughly enjoyed Joplin’s music and Brent’s skill and passion displayed for our pleasure on January 8. Those of you that were not able to attend, can see the performance on Youtube either by searching for TMMC member Richard Trubia on your app or searching for this website address: http://www.youtube.com/@richardtrubia8229. We will be displaying each month’s performance on Richard’s Youtube site according to the performance date so that all members can enjoy the wonderful entertainment we are so privileged to have access to. You will also find our commissioned work by Julia Walker Jewell “If Music is the Food of Love, Play On.” It was premiered on November 13, 2025.
If you have any difficulty accessing the site, just reach out to me at 910-617-8966 or joanntoscano0@gmail.com and I will walk you through it.
Finally, please give some thought to whom you would like to bring as a guest next month as we are entertained by a Brass Quintet. We need to share the benefit of this wonderful club which has provided entertainment for music loving members for more than 100 years.
And the beat goes on…..
